Listening.
What does it mean when the partners look to each other
when you ask
them to tell you about where they see themselves living?
Some will tell you everything right off the bat.
Right down to
Grandmother's sideboard and the dog that loves to run.
Others know,
but telling someone they just met can be hard.
So, you ask a
question.
And listen.
And watch for the looks to each other and the
ones down and away.
They sometimes have just come from their job,
children, school...
now they are here.
Thinking about their new
house.
It can be scary.
This is one of the biggest if not the
biggest decision most will make.
Often, I just give them space.
I
listen.
I have left my pen and paper in the van.
I want to see their
eyes when they talk
about their kids, their living space, their
savings, each other.
They relax.
I start to explain the
process...carefully.
They lean forward. Their hands relax around a
coffee cup
and they are listening.
We are on our way.
In listening, we take turns.
Hear! Hear!
